Installations
Emond uses installations to bring her audience into her world and help better convey her message. Her installations allowed her to experiment with other media, such as video, sound and mixed media during her undergrad time at UCF.
April 2015 Medical Records, 2018, Scannography, Audio and Projection Installation on Max-Metal Mount with Luster Laminate, 22”x45” (on wall) depth dimensions variable- adjustable for projector.
Consisting of 9 medical documents, their manila folder and a projected selfie from the day in presentation, April 2015 Medical Records made its debut at Nova: SVAD Biannual BFA Exhibition, UCF, Orlando, FL.
A common component of Emond’s videos and installations is voice overs. These include her talking about expierences with epilepsy and neurosurgery.
The use of experimenting with photography did not stop with just projection, it carried on into video, including stop motion animation.
The Tiles Project experimented with the idea of a seizure and hospital “calming devices”. Some hospitals have translucent tiles above testing areas where a patient would be. Instead of seeing a boring foam tile, it would be replaced with a calm, glowing photo of a tree or cloud.
To represent a seizure I gradually moved the pieces around, faster and faster, turning more and more purple.
The Tiles Project, 2019, Rear Projected Video with Semi Translucent Plastic Screen & C Stand Installation, dimensions variable
Nueropsych Block Test, 2018, foam cubes and video projection installation, dimensions variable
Not all experiments are screaming sucesses
The neuropsych block test is an example of a test that is given during a neuropsych evaluation- a test every brain surgery candidate must go through. The goal is to create the given shape with blocks as fast as you can.
This installation has projected images that change patterns. In the future I would like to make it more interactive, giving viewers an image to complete before it changes with printed blocks.
